L’Chaim & Lagniappe
L’Chaim & Lagniappe is my family cookbook. It is a collection of recipes from my mother and father’s sides of our family, accompanied by scrapbook photographs and illustrated memories to communicate the unique marriage of cultures.

Typography
The type pairing includes Braisetto, a script, for section titles and illustration features, to evoke handwritten recipes. I also looked at some older Southern comfort food and French cookbooks and tried to find a casual middle ground between those styles.
Illustrations
Throughout the cookbook, ingredient highlights are illustrated, existing independently, within a pattern, or compiled into a feature. Like the handwritten look intended by my script choice, I chose a looser illustration style to communicate the nostalgia and intimacy behind sharing our memories.
Recipe Spreads
I developed a system where my father’s recipes are constructed of black text on white pages, and my mother’s are inverted. All recipes are accompanied by the illustrations, scrapbook photographs, or a combination of the two.
