About the Project
Impressive was my first formal attempt at designing a complete typeface. Created during my completion of the Cooper Union Condensed Type Design program, it was influenced by my intensive study of calligraphy and the design and construction of typographic forms.
Process
Impressive utilizes a low-contrast expansion weight distribution, as well as quiet serifs and teardrop terminals.
After extensive sketching and exploration, I found these elements to best convey the intended reserved, expressive tone.
Application
One possible application of Impressive, is the written description, accompanying art pieces on the wall of a museum. Brochures, labels, and books are also possible applications. These were all actively considered during my design process.
